About me

Hi, I am Tommy Guiliano. I am currently working on my Doctor of Clinical Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. After years of exploring altered states, alternative healing modalities, and indigenous plant medicine traditions, I never expected myself to reenter the world of academia. I was extremely dissatisfied with the way that our current system has failed to acknowledge the transpersonal aspects of healing in the wake of a mental health crisis, and so I vowed to stay away from this world. I later realized that my dissatisfaction was the reason that I should pursue this path and contribute to building the bridge that I so deeply believe needs to be built.

I am passionate about studying how mystical experiences have been grossly misunderstood by western psychology, often leading to unnecessary pathologization, and the historical and cultural bias that has led to this. I am also interested in gender and sexuality, depth psychology, ancient wisdom and traditions from various indigenous cultures.

I aspire to use this platform to write about these topics and to hone my ideas as I continue to learn and my beliefs continue to evolve. Thank you for following along with me on this journey!
